Six structured workshops that walk you through a complete design thinking process — applied directly to your career and life. Reflect on your story, identify your strengths, envision your future, and build a real plan to move forward.
This program was designed by Darin Eich, Ph.D. and has been used at Dartmouth College, other universities, and by students and professionals worldwide. Complete it on your own, in pairs, or in teams — watch each video workshop and do the activities at your own pace. Programs can be customized with optional kick-off events, group discussions, peer sharing, mentoring, or coaching.
In this introductory workshop, you will identify experiences and resources you have leveraged thus far in your academic, professional, and personal life. You'll be introduced to the innovation process by reflecting on the building blocks of specific resources, followed by key experiences, and integrate them together in order to begin creating your unique path.
In this workshop, you will learn the cycle of the Hero's Journey and apply it to key experiences you have had, gaining insight into the path you have taken. You will also create your own visual journey story to help "show and tell" your story so far.
In this workshop, you will utilize reflection of the micro and macro to gain insight into the skills you have, the values you hold dear, and the passionate interests that engage you. You'll zoom in on a key experience to appreciate the lessons to be learned from it, then step back to look at the big picture. Finally, you will focus on a path guided by your strengths and passionate interests, amassing a list of the key things that make you unique.
In this workshop, you identify an artifact that symbolizes your strengths and passionate interests. You will develop meaning, understanding, focus, and the potential to leverage those strengths and passionate interests that make you unique — and learn how to communicate your potential to others.
In this workshop, you focus on the future. You utilize the self-knowledge you have built and develop a new future vision for professional and personal success. You apply an innovation system to create that vision and engage in a strategic process to go from challenge to questions to ideas — thinking intentionally and innovatively about your future, both immediate and long-term.
In this final workshop you are guided through a process to re-construct your ideas into better, more innovative concepts — like a portfolio of intellectual property for your own professional and personal life. You move from analyzed and synthesized concepts to a strategic plan for action. You learn how to test and select the best concepts, build a clear communication strategy, and take your first real steps toward a meaningful path forward.
